FULLERTON THEATRE DISTRICT ESTABLISHED
FULLERTON, CA February 6, 2006 – The
Fullerton Theatre League (FTL) in association with the city’s major theatrical organizations, announces establishment
of the “Fullerton Theatre District.”
On January 30, 2006, the League hosted its first in a series of Round
Table discussions. Participants included representatives of the Muckenthaler; Fullerton Civic Light Opera (FCLO); Hunger Artists,
Stages, Maverick and Vanguard Theaters; Friends of Jazz (FOJ); Orange County Playwrights Alliance (OCPA); and the Chamber
Theatre Ensemble; as well as FTL’s Board of Directors.
The theatre operators shared their knowledge and experience
with each other, recognizing the synergies created when an artistic community bands together for the good of all. The new
“District” will be clearly described on FTL’s “Map, A guide to the Fullerton Theatre District,”
and its “Menu,” a concise listing of upcoming shows in Fullerton. FTL publishes updates of its Map and Menu throughout
the year. The public can find them at area theatres and businesses, from FTL’s booth at the Fullerton Market, and they
will soon be available to FTL members by mail or E-mail.
In addition to forming the new District, participants in the
Round Table engaged in a lively repartee about new avenues for theatrical education in schools, development of strategic alliances
with restaurants and retailers, coordination of marketing efforts, Web promotion and sales, an annual theatrical festival
in Fullerton, and myriad other areas of mutual interest.
A second roundtable is being scheduled for some time in March.
*Fullerton Theatre League Began With Strong Vision*
The Fullerton Theatre League was founded in 2005
by friends and volunteers who have worked together for years on civic-minded projects. Its mission is to promote regional
awareness of theatrical events and cultivate support for local performing arts organizations and venues.
The League
was a regular participant in last year’s Fullerton Market, provided support to FOJ for its annual Ragtime Music Festival,
RagFest, and hosted a number of events in 2005.
Dracula Scared Up Another FTL Success!!!
The Fullerton Theatre League hosted a special
show of Dracula... the Musical? at Vanguard...
Friday, November 4th - The FTL invited friends of Fullerton's
theatre community to come and enjoy an evening of campy musical fun at the Vanguard Theatre.
Before the show a cocktail reception was held with the all
too appropriate Bloody Mary as the featured drink. Each attendee recieved a goodie bag with treats including door
prize tickets, gummy fangs and a clove of garlic to keep Dracula at bay. After the show there were more cocktails
and munchies to enjoy as the drawing prizes were given away. The cast and crew came out to join the celebration, a
couple cast members even took part in drawing the door prize winners and read the winning numbers in character. A
few winners took home garlic bakers, others took home coffee gift baskets, some others took home bottles of "Vampire"
wine. Once all prizes had been handed out to the winners the League made one final presentation for the evening.
A check was given to the Vanguard Theatre Ensemble in the amount of $650 - part of proceeds raised by the FTL at their
"Jumble Sale." With the Vanguard in the midst of a fundraising effort to save their theatre from eviction from
its current location the additional funds were very much appreciated. (Please click on the "Save the Vanguard" graphic on
this page to see the related article/press release and find out what you can do to help save the Vanguard) Before
the evening drew to a close the FTL served up a Dracula themed cake for all to enjoy. Many stayed to mingle and chat
long into the night.

Jumble Sale Success!!!
Friday, Saturday &
Sunday; August 26th - 28th the Fullerton Theatre League held a "Jumble Sale" (rummage sale) on site at the Fullerton Civic
Light Opera's offices. Response to our call for item donations was amazing. We were overwhelmed with donations
of clothing, costuming, shoes, glassware, linens, housewares, furnishings and more! We even had a brand new organ donated
as well as some beautiful brand new hand crafted footwear from Capri Shoes. Volunteers from the FTL worked many hours
sorting and organizing all the materials for the sale. There was so much to set out that we couldn't even come close
to getting prices on most of the items before hand... volunteer staff was there during sale hours to help people and give
prices on items that were yet to be tagged.
A steady flow of shoppers braved the heat and kept our volunteers busy
throughout the weekend. As a result, we brought in quite a bit of funds to help the FTL, the FCLO and the other
participating theatre companies. It was a success for sure, and one that we hope to build upon in the future.
A
big hearty THANK YOU to all who volunteered, donated, and shopped.
